Dirt Bikers, Dual Sport riders, ATV's, Jeeps, 4X4 trucks and other off-roaders can learn the Global Positioning Systems quickly and easily with hands-on experience at the Baja GPS Event. Learn your GPS or borrow one of ours. We'll teach you to navigate safely and accurately by sending you on an educational 3 - 5 hour off-road GPS route while exploring some of Baja's best terrain. We always have a few surprises up our sleeves and with this years ALL NEW routes (my personal favorites), you'll learn much more than just to navigate with a GPS! Afterwards, we'll have a Mexican Buffet, huge party with all the Baja Fixin's, a raffle with gifts from our sponsors including Magellan GPS, Dunlop, Baja Designs, FOX, Fugawi GPS Software, Arai, Hacienda Santa Veronica, Lizard Lady, and MANY others.

Baja GPS Guidebook Volume 1 will be available for purchase and Volume 2 (including routes to Cabo San Lucas and more options for the north) will be advertised for 2004 publication.

There are two Event courses to choose from: * both of the courses are brand new*

SINGLE TRACK: This is an advanced course for those who are single-track savvy and interested in a more challenging GPS navigational course. We get you on single-track right away and don't allow for much 2-track connections until the very end, where you'll be glad to find it. It offers a challenging long rocky downhill with clusters of rocks and drops that will make your triceps cry until you reach the bottom. Loads of windy tricky terrain with roots and tight canyons will gradually bring you back up to Veronica and spit you out with a few cruiser sections to cool you down. I have to say, this is one of my most favorite courses of all....... but I'm just a Lizard with an opinion. After the GPS class, you'll be amazed you navigated this route by yourself (but we'll certainly take the credit).

2-TRACK: This course is for 4-wheels, Dual Sport bikes, dirt bikes, ATV's and any other kind of off-road vehicle. This course is an intermediate course made easy and LONG. It is 75 miles this year, but even rain wouldn't make this course too difficult. It is the most beautiful and diverse course we've offered with a ton of really cool sites and stops. You'll finish this course in 4 - 5 hours without a doubt and you won't be disappointed. These roads get you back in some remote spots with all kinds of Baja terrain for an overall great navigational experience.

GPS's Available for Lend: There will be limited GPS's available to lend anyone that does not have a GPS You must request the GPS upon registering on this site or by mail-in (first come - first serve and they go quickly). We will notify you by August 25, 2003 if you will be lent a GPS. Having your own GPS at the event is highly advisable so you can continue learning your GPS until ready for advancing. Click HERE to see GPS Recommendations.

Location: Santa Veronica, Baja - DIRECTIONS: (1.5 hours from San Diego). Cross the border at Tecate or Tijuana; turn East on Mexican HWY 2 (follow Mexicali Quota signs) to El Hongo (between Tecate and La Rumorosa). When you exit HWY 2, stay Right until you see the "Pacifico" store (the Santa Veronica green signs are no longer on the streets). Make a Right and stay on this road through downtown El Hongo. Continue 7.4 miles south to Santa Veronica following the Baja GPS Event signs.

Hotel Reservations - HACIENDA SANTA VERONICA: Ask for Diego - he speaks English!

Book your reservation with Santa Veronica right away. Getting this reservation early is crucial, as they will book up. Contact Diego at 011-52-664-686-4110 direct or toll free at 1 (888) 556-6288 for reservations. They will answer in Spanish, but you can ask for Diego in English. You can also e-mail them for reservations by putting Diego/reservations in the subject line to haciendasantaveronica@hotmail.com. They have changed the way event reservations are taken and we have high hopes that this will go smoother. Please give us feedback! If you need help with reservations, please contact us at lizardlady@bajaGPSguide.com.

Each room has 2 double beds, hot showers, and some have Cable TV. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and homey with and the staff are all wonderful.

Hotel Cost: 2-person rooms: $45 per night, $85 for 2-nights (this is a group discount with the Baja GPS Event and includes tax - tell Diego when you call for a reservation).

Camping Cost: Discounted camping is available at $7.00 per night. There are bathroom facilities in the campground and pool side showers for campers.

Restaurant: The restaurant at the Hacienda has changed their menu and offers new and exciting authentic Mexican dinning. They have a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinners ranging from $4 - 12 dollars per plate on average. The buffet for the party is $6.00 per person and there is a wonderful Sunday breakfast at $5.00 per person. The staff is very sweet and eager to serve (tip them well).

Bar: Well stocked, full-service bar with Satellite television

2 Classes Offered:

Class 1: FREE IF REGISTERED BY AUGUST 25, 2003 OR $25

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2003 - CHECK-IN FROM 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM: CLASS STARTS PROMPTLY AT 1:00PM. This is a free and OPTIONAL class offered to those that pre-registered by August 25, 2003 or it will cost $25 (paid before the class). This class is most beneficial to those who want a thorough lesson both in class and hands-on. It is more detailed and we have more time with each participant in class verses the mandatory 1-hour class on Saturday. This class includes an extra sample route done with the Lizard Lady and Scott off-road with stop and go questions and answers.

Make sure you check the optional class box when pre-registering and please be on-time; this year there will be little mercy on late comers, so please note that you need to be in Veronica a minimum of 2 hours before class times for check-in. This class is well worth taking.

Class 2: Mandatory Class day of the Event

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2003 - CHECK-IN FROM 7 - 9:30AM: CLASS STARTS AT 10:00AM. The second class is MANDATORY and offered to all those who have registered for the event. Here, we will teach navigational skills. This means that a "pre-sample" course will be uploaded into your GPS and each class (segregated by GPS brand type) will do a short walking course while instructed on how to navigate using the GPS. These skills will prove essential for completing the 3 - 5 hour off-road course after the class (also uploaded to your GPS). The mandatory class teaches you to:

  • Activate and invert a route for navigation
  • Read the compass window during navigation between waypoints
  • Understand when and why to GO TO a specific waypoint
  • Problem solve in the field and get back on track if you got off course
  • Change from route to route within the GPS
  • Successfully navigate a 3 - 5 hour technically challenging GPS course comfortably

Then, we all get to have a HUGE MEXICAN STYLE PARTY with a RAFFLE including gifts from Magellan, Baja Designs, Dunlop, Cycoactive, Pennzoil, IMS, Fugawi GPS Software, Lizard Lady Pub., Rancho Santa Veronica, Too Much Fun Promotions, and many others.

Gas: Your vehicles need to get a minimum of 45 miles for the single-track and a minimum of 85 miles on the 2-track. If you need gas placed on the route, please email us at LizardLady@bajaGPSguide.com for help. There is NO GAS AT VERONICA. You can get gas 7 miles north, in El Hongo or just after crossing the border, but we advise bringing some jugs and filling them in Baja. Customs have cracked down (we have heard of confiscation), so to avoid the hassle, buy your gas over the border.

GPS Mounts: Makeshift GPS mounts will be available if you do not have a mount for your GPS or if you are borrowing a GPS from us. There are also RAM GPS mounts for purchase available.

CHECK-IN: This will require a minimum of 2 hours. Please remember this when arriving on time to be ready for classes. You will be required to fill out several forms, your GPS will be set up properly or you will pick up your borrowed GPS, 2 separate routes will be uploaded to your GPS, and you'll be grouped into 4 - 5 off-roaders per group (you can request who is in your group or we will group you with another). There will also be a sales table and other venders displaying and selling items catering to GPS's in the off-road market. THIS PROCESS TAKES TIME - PLEASE BE AT THE EVENT A MINIMUM OF 2 HOURS BEFORE THE CLASS START TIME or EARLIER IS EVEN BETTER! Last year there were many late birds causing those on time to wait. This year those who are tardy will have to wait.

REFUNDS: Once you register for our event, our costs go up. Refunds are at the discretion of Lizard Lady Publications, Inc.

LAST YEARS ATTENDEE'S: Here is what has been added to the event so you get more out of it the second time:
