About The Baja GPS Events

The Baja GPS events were formulated to educate off-roaders on the Global Positioning System and how to use these units with the Baja GPS Guidebook for a safer and more effective off-road trip in Baja California. The classes have proven worthy and the events are packed with new information each year. Here's what you can expect in general:

Location: Santa Veronica, Baja - just 1.5 hours from San Diego, Rancho Santa Veronica offers wonderful hotel, restaurant & bar accommodations at a very special low rate for the GPS event. The 2004 GPS Event will be held in Johnson's Valley, Lucerene, CALIFORNIA this year. Click on "2004 Event Info" on the left side menu to read more. The 2005 GPS Event will be back in Baja!

Courses: There are two courses to choose from: 2-track or Single-track. The single-track course is offered only to advanced motorcyclists. For those who prefer it, this course offers dirt bikers a more GPS challenging route. It typically runs about 35 miles and considering the navigation and the technical terrain, it will take between 3 - 4 hours to complete. The 2-track course is open to all types of off-road vehicles (4X4 trucks, ATV's, Dual Sports, motorcycles, jeeps, or other recreational vehicles). This course is a longer 60 -70 mile course offering the novice or intermediate GPSer a full 4 hour day of learning the GPS without technically rough terrain. The 2-track is typically beautiful and full of diverse intermediate terrain. The 2004 California GPS Event will be an AMA sanctioned District 37 event which only allows for motorcycles (off-road and dual sport) and ATV's.

Day of Event: All participants MUST be on time. Upon registering for the event on-line, print out the schedule for the event. All participants must go through registration the day of the event (even if you registered and paid on-line). Day of Event Regestration includes: borrowing a GPS (must pre-register for a borrowed GPS) or setting up your GPS, uploading it with the Event route, receiving the event package, and learning about new equipment shown at our technical buffet. Make shift mounts are available FREE to anyone that needs one and there are also mounts available for purchase.

Timing & Cost: All classes will start on time. Click on "2004 Event Information" on the left side menu for details on schedule and costs for the upcoming Baja GPS Event. There are substantial benefits for PRE-Registering before August 25th.

Friday Evening Class - Sometimes we offer a FREE Class scheduled for only those who PRE-register by our specified date, which includes extra instruction on using the GPS that is not offered in the Saturday class.

Saturday Morning Class - Mandatory Class for all participants. You can learn your own GPS or borrow one of our units (first come first serve until all units are reserved). In a 1-hour classroom setting, you will be taught the basics of the GPS and how to navigate before being sent on a 3 - 4 hour test route to use your new skills hands-on.

Saturday Route - After the mandatory class, each participant is grouped with their buddies or put into a group of singles and the start releases each group in 5 minute intervals from the gates of Santa Veronica. There are Course Description Charts in the registration packages, which are used in conjunction with the GPS. Several staff members are stationed along the routes to aid with GPS instruction, shade, cool drinks, and safety aid.

Saturday Party & Raffle - Upon your return, there is enough time to shower and relax for a half hour before the party begins. A Mexican buffet of favorites are served with lots of beer and the raffle is PLENTIFUL.
