Baja Off Road Tours PDF Print

If you plan to take a self-guided Baja Off Road Tour with our Baja GPS Guidebooks, here is a helpful list with explanations of each product so you can choose a complete package that is right for you:

Baja GPS Guidebook V1: Click HERE to review the detailed contents of volume 1. This guidebook provides routes in Northern Baja from Santa Veronica to San Ignacio. Most people purchase Volume 1 first and stay in the north on 5 day or less schedules. Even if you plan to go south, Volume 1 is your bible to a safe trip including how-to's and instructions for GPS navigation, information on border hospitals, and everything about Baja's quirks to have a safe Baja off road tour. You can purchase this guidebook alone, hand punch in all the waypoints, and make the routes in your GPS with the least expense. This works well if you double check all waypoints for accuracy after punching them in.   The downfall to that is accuracy and time consumption.  With Volume 1, you will get 58 interconnectable routes gifting you hundreds of new route plans for just $125. Baja GPS Guidebook V2: Click HERE to review the detailed contents of volume 2. Volume 2 adds more routes to the north (some epic single track, I must say) and continues routes where Volume 1 left off at San Ignacio and goes to Cabo San Lucas. With both guidebooks, the entire Peninsula is covered with so many routes; you could make multiples of hundreds of different trips in years to come. This guidebook is a "supplement" to Volume 1. It adds more routes to the guidebook, but Volume 1 has all the explanations of how to use the guidebook with GPS navigation and provides information on important things to know about Baja before taking a self-guided Baja off road tour. We highly recommend purchasing Volume 1 first or with Volume 2.  For ROUTE SUGGESTIONS Volume 2, Click HERE

Products to Accompany V1 & V2:

Fugawi Route CD V1 - this route CD allows you to upload all the waypoints and routes to your GPS with a click of your mouse. You must have Fugawi software in order to use this CD

  1. Fugawi Software - you get much more than the ease and accuracy of uploading the V1 & 2 routes. This moving map software allows you to import and/or scan maps for viewing, editing, and designing routes in any area. It is a very comprehensive software made extremely easy to learn. Fugawi has a full time tech. line available typically with very minimal wait with impeccable customer service.
  2. 5X7 Mapcase - this mapcase allows you to put the course description sheets right in front of you for easy reference on the fly. It is not cumbersome and does not hamper steering in any way. We highly recommend this inexpensive product.
  3. Fugawi Topo Maps of Baja - these topo maps are already calibrated for Fugawi software, meaning that you can import and use them without any set up. 1:500,000 is the perfect scale/size allowing you to see and manipulate our routes and any new data of your own with more miles on-screen (you can see more miles per your screen size). The smaller scale map 1:250,000 will show less miles per your screen size, but will show more topographical detail (like mountains, valleys, rivers, and other obstacles).  Smaller scaled maps are better for those who wish to explore unknown areas of their own.
  4. Fugawi Topo Map of America - Just like the Baja Topo, this map is ready for use with Fugawi. If you plan on venturing in the US, this map gives you the ability to make, view, and manipulate routes, track files, and waypoints in the continental USA at 1:100,000 (quite detailed).

SAFETY:

Don't skimp on safety!  We offer a number of amazing safety products that can save your life in remote areas.  Please at least read about them thoroughly and understand your options.  Having no option for remote emergencies is a horrible situation when you need it.  There are good options!  Hover over Products and click on each safety option to learn more.

Get The Weight Off Your Back:

Off-Road Saddle-Bags: Depending on the length of your trip, you may want to consider off-road saddle bags. I ride Baja 3 months at a time, but even when I take shorter 1 week trips, these bags take weight off my body feeling better than ever after a long day's ride. I don't even know they are there - even on single track unless I'm squeezing through a large boulder cluster. Packing light and using these saddle bags are the best way to travel Baja -by far!
